Katarzyna Pawliszewska – Lavocat is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, with a degree in Mural Art. She is an artist with many talents who has achieved a high level of artistic expression in tapestry, ceramics and stained glass.
In her approach to tapestry Lavocat understands that it is not subservient to painting; it is an autonomous art in which form, materials and technique must be conceived as inseparable elements of a coherent whole.
Statement
Lavocat always executes her tapestries in very large formats because she thinks of them as walls in themselves. Her weavings, in close harmony with the interior architecture, are classical in tone and resolutely contemporary in their polychromatic and graphic composition. Her work has a solid structure without extravagance, without graphic or chromatic shocks. Her sensitivity results in complex compositions whose unity and coherence are clearly visible. She is subtle without sentimental dilution of form or color. In the presence of these works that are contemporary without following fashion, strong without being aggressive, musical without stridence, we are captivated even though we cannot grasp all their richness in a superficial first impression.
