To Ursula, words are inextricably linked to the overall artistry of her paintings. Ursula is a gay and sophisticated primitive, a not too serious descendant of the Douanier Rousseau. Brightly colored balloons ascend against a background of tropical grass and palm trees…. The sun always shines, the sky is blue, and the time is not the present. It is as though she had sought a refuge from modern art in fairy land.
The works from this period show to what extent Ursula was attentive to her environment and how well she was able to adapt, all while keeping her own personality as an artist. She also explored, often with a pronounced wit, the formal language of the avante-garde, here CoBra and Alechinsky
